73 million meters. The Earth’s circumference is just over half that distance. The number represents the amount of fabric produced in 1975 by the crew of Białostockie Zakłady Przemysłu Bawełnianego „Fasty” – a gigantic textile factory in the North-East of Poland. After the collapse of the socialism in Eastern Europe the factory didn’t survive the so-called privatisation period. For the region and its people it meant back to the starting point.
